About Us and Our Background

​

The Redwood Art Association is a community of artists who value art as an essential component of every aspect of our culture. With over 250 artist members and supporters, we are Humboldt County’s oldest art organization, founded in 1956. The RAA organizes and promotes large art exhibitions year-round for our members and Humboldt County artists. It is part of our vision that arts are a thriving and vibrant part of our community life.

Over the past sixty-plus years the RAA has supported and encouraged artists, sponsored art exhibits, established a scholarship fund at College of the Redwoods, held lectures and workshops and supported the flourishing art scene. Our Board of Directors continues to look for opportunities to serve the arts and our artist members.

The community is very supportive of our work. Hundreds of volunteers have donated time and expertise to produce exhibits and activities. Businesses and individuals have donated awards for artists for outstanding achievements. Local businesses that underwrite many of our exhibitions are an important part of the financial health of the RAA as well as an ongoing example of the bond between business and art in our community.

The Redwood Art Association owns the building at 603 F Street, Eureka. The location and elegant nature of the building are perfect for an art gallery. Having a permanent home is the fulfillment of a long-held dream and will allow us to step fully into our role of making art an indispensable part of life and the economy of Humboldt County.

Background
The Redwood Art Association was founded in 1956 by a group of artists with a goal of promoting visual art in our community. In 2016, we celebrated our 60th Anniversary and honored our long history and those who contributed to the strength and vitality of the Association for these many years.

The Vision and Mission statements continue to serve as our springboard as we explore ways we can collaborate with other organizations, nurture our artistic creativity and support our members.

 

On June 15, 2012, the Redwood Art Association became the owner of the building at 603 F Street, Eureka. The location and elegant nature of the building are perfect for an art gallery. Having a permanent home is the fulfillment of a long-held dream and will allow us to step fully into our role of making art an indispensable part of life and the economy of Humboldt County.
